On the evening of October 1, the official opening of Budapest Design Week was held on the Spoon The Boat event space, with a much smaller number of guests than usual due to the coronavirus epidemic. At the event, Judit Osvárt, curator of the program series, a member of the Hungarian Design Council, was the first to greet the attendees, then she introduced the main elements of the series and the renewed website. After her, Gyula Pomázi, President of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and the Hungarian Design Council, spoke about the connections between innovation and design in connection with Budapest Design Week, the Hungarian Design Award and the Design Management Award. Dr. László György, State Secretary for Economic Strategy and Regulation of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, emphasized the importance of innovation for the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Following the speeches, the Hungarian Design Award and Design Management Award were presented. The evening closed with an informal reception.
