HUNGARIAN DESIGN AWARD 2017
Following a tradition, an award ceremony will be held also this year to present the best of last year in the Hungarian design scene. The grant that has represented the most prestigious recognition in the profession for almost 40 years, along with the annual award announced by the Minister of National Economy, primarily aims to call market actors’ attention to the competitive potential offered by the creative industry, and to present the outstanding achievements of national innovation to a broader audience. As the notion of design keeps changing and is gathers complexity, the event offers a comprehensive overview of the trends representing the present and projecting the future of the design scene. Similarly to the previous years, the panel awarded products that represent a high added design value, are innovative, competitive, and meet international expectations, in addition to becoming an indispensable part of our everyday environment.
DESIGN MANAGEMENT AWARD 2017
The strategic application of design today is proved to increase competitiveness and is regarded by market actors as a profitable investment. The Hungarian Design Council founded the Design Management Award as a means to recognise the organisations that set an example by using the inventory of design and design-minded thinking, which has become an integral part of their operations also at the level of decision-making processes. This recognition may motivate organisations and institutions by showcasing good practices, while offering an exciting glimpse into the secrets of corporate success to those interested. In addition to the four awarded companies, four other organisations that have received certificates of recognition are also presented at the exhibition.

An exhibition by the students of University of Sopron SKK / Applied Arts Institute / AMI –Design Department and University of Novi Sad – Academy of Arts, organised by byArt Association in Art Quarter Budapest Gallery. Designs, sculptures of rethought objects and poster designs will also be exhibited.
Caracalla Design Days 2017 is an exclusive event and the only exhibition of interior design in Hungary where selected leading brands are presenting their exciting innovations for the top local designers, the press and the general public. Brands like Villeroy & Boch, Duravit and others will also exhibited.
Ergonomic design and environmentally conscious approach are in focus of the exhibition and fashion show by the students of Industrial Product Design Engineering at Óbuda University. Function, form and technology are in the center of communicative beginnings. Two events, several topics and inspiring solutions!
This year, too, KUBIK community office is offering special events for the visitors. There will be an exposition of pieces by contemporary designers, organised by mutargy.com, a movie night, and interesting workshops.
Studio of Young Designers Association (SYDA) celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. The group provides opportunities for arts and craft newcomers, and helps to integrate them to the cultural and artistic life by supporting their early works. With more than 300 current members, FISE’s actual exhibition is not merely a presentation of beautiful objects, but also reflects the reaction by young artists to the challenges of Hungarian design.
Cool finnish designers will show their products and artworks at Bartók Béla Boulevard – study or buy them in this pop-up store. Gallerys and shops at Bartók Béla street will also create a special installation made of recycling designed things, in collaboration with great artists.
The four-legged girl, the dog-faced boy, theSiamese twins, the giant and Elephant man... „freak” people, exhibited at the circus at the time. Freak furniture is not real furniture: they are part of a special show. Anthropomorphic chairs, armchairs, objet trouvé items in the remastered „Black Lodge” of Twin Peaks, with rough forms, dark colours and secrets – interpreted by the language of design.

The Collection awaits visitors with multiple programmes: in their guided tour and discussion, a parallel is drawn between the 200-year history of Goldberger factory and the present, focusing on marketing and communication between the two world wars, and on what is necessary to launch a successful contemporary design enterprise. There will be a guided tour on blue dyeing, along with a related workshop.

Our haritage of motifs and traditional objects are create an illusion of constancy. The duality of fast-slow, unique-serial has been presented sice the Industrial Revolution. Design can consciously use this duality by simultaneously displaying rural and urban style. Plates, dresses, embroidered wallprotectors. Everything in blue and white. Collaborators of the program: Csilla Szilágyi, Zsuzsa Boldizsár, Eszter Ágnes Szabó, Anna Hegedűs– Piroshka.
This special shop’s exhibition will feature iron banks from the 19th century and tin money banks from the 20th century – all with old, interesting designs (smith, magician, dog’s house, monkey with hut…). Visitors can also watch a movie about these old items and their mechanics.
In the focus of the museum is an iconic lamp, early Bauhaus masterwork of Wilhelm Wagenfeld. This 1924 lamp is reflected through the lenses of prominent contemporary artists. Local context presented via lamp designs commissioned by the one time owner of Kiscell, furniture manufacturer Miksa Schmidt. Exclusive Design Het Budapest guided tour is held by the curator, Anikó B. Nagy.
